Aashram Web Series Review: 5 Quick Reasons to Watch it & Not to Skip it
Prakash Jha has once again proved that he commands the territory of portraying the sensitive topics like politics, education system, reservation, caste system, on screen with great diligence. This time Jha has touched the theme of dodgy Godmen in India and their ill practices to mesmerize their andhbhakts (followers) with his debut web series Aashram streaming on MX Player.
“Main aap sab ko moksha ki raha par le ke jaaonga. Japnaam Japnaam“says Bobby Deol to his devout followers in a scene and “He is not a godman. He is a conman” another line from the trailer of Aashram sums up the central theme of the series.
Here are the 5 best and quick reasonsto binge watch this series. So let’s start
1- The Stellar Cast will Spell the Magic for Sure
In Aashram web series, Bobby Deol is sitting in the driving seat who’ll take you on a ride to remember for his performance as a Godman (Conman) Baba Nirala Kashipur Wala. In his recent web film Class of 83, on Netflix, Bobby Deol has done wonderful work as a good cop whereas in Aashram, Bobby Deol has played a white (actually grey) character of Baba Ji who has millions of followers.
The power packed performances, by almost all the co-stars of the series, makes Aashram worth watching without any break (literally). Chandan Roy Sanyal (Bhopa Bhai) who has played Baba’s best buddy, right-hand and hit-man as well in the series, has given noteworthy performance.
Darshan Kumar (as Insp. Ujagar Singh), Anupriya Goenka (as Dr. Natasha), Aaditi (as Pammi), Tridha Choudhury (as Babita), and Tushar Pandey (as Satti), all have powered the liberty of OTT Platform medium, with their acts.
2- Prakash Jha’s Laser Sharp Direction is Unbeatable and Not Worth Missing
National Award Winner-Director Prakash Jha has given us lots of masterpieces like Mrityudand (1997), Gangajal (2003), Apaharan (2005), Rajneeti (2010), Arakshan (2011), Chakravyuh (2012), Satyagraha (2013) and Gangajal (2016) and a very special web movie Praeeksha (2020).
Although, Aashram web series marks the foray of veteran Director Prakash Jha into the world of OTT Platform but he has nailed it without much hanky-panky.
3- The Gripping Storyline that has Touched a Sensitive Theme with Caution
The storyline of Aashram is socially grounded and mainly based on the religion which sometimes becomes the puppet in the hands of a few fake gurus/babas, who garb in white colour but are rotten and black from inside.
Aashram web series meticulously shows the infiltration of fake babas and blind faith into the Indian society and its severe consequences.
4- Aashram Web Series Review: Dark World of Religion and Blind Faith
“Bhakti ki zaroorat,” says one key character, “kamzor aur gareeb logon ko zyaada hoti hain na.” Another says: “Hamaare desh mein log vishwas karna shuru karte hai toh baad (flood) si aa jaati hai.“
The above lines, set the central theme of Aashram, where Prakash Jha along with Habib Faisal (screenwriter) has shown how the Godmen (conmen) in India operate by taking advantage of the blind faith of devotees to push their own agendas.
Poor treatment by the upper caste to lower caste, leveraging opportunities by Babas in their favour, corruption in police and how powerful politicians play with the system, all of this have been filmed in an effective manner in Aashram by Prakash Jha.
5- Aashram Web Series is streaming for FREE on MX Player
Aashram web series was released on 28th August on OTT Platform MX Player and the good news is that you can watch Aashram for free on MX Player and need not to pay any subscription charge.
The plotting, turns, twists and betrayal in the nine episodes long series of Aashram web series, will elevate further into the second season, which is under wings. So, stay tuned!
